Regulation of the Expression of E-Cadherin on Human Cancer
نویسندگان
چکیده
E-cadherin is a cell to cell adhesion molecule which acts as a suppressor of metastasis. This study examined the effect of y-litmlmir acid (GLA), a n-(>polyunsaturated fatty acid, on the expression of E-cadherin in human cancer cells. Western blotting studies demonstrated that treatment of cells with GLA for 24 h increased the expression of E-cadherin in lung, colon, breast, melanoma, and liver cancer cells, but not in endothelial cells and fibroblasts. The results were confirmed by immunocytochemistry. In contrast, two other n-6 fatty acids, linoleic acid and arachidonic acid, failed to induce these changes. The increased expression of E-cadherin was correlated with reduced in vitro invasion and increased aggregation, in dicating that the increased E-cadherin expression induced by GLA was biologically active. These data add GLA to the short list of E-cadherin up-regulatory factors. The up-regulation of E-cadherin expression in human cancer cells may contribute to the anticancer properties of GLA.

Background and objectives: Gastric cancer is currently known as one of the most important causes of cancer-driven death all over the world. In patients with gastric cancer, a significant proportion of death occurs due to metastasis. On the other hand, down modulated E-cadherin level has been reported as an important contributor to tumor cell invasion and metastasis. In this re...
متن کاملThe Effect of Interval Training on the Expression of Tumor Suppressor Gene, Systemic Inflammation, and Tumor Volume in Breast Cancer–Bearing BALB/c Mice
Introduction: E-cadherin is expressed in most normal epithelial tissues. Loss of E-cadherin can cause dedifferentiation and invasiveness in human carcinomas, leading E-cadherin to be classified as a tumor suppressor. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of interval training on the expression of tumor suppressor gene E-cadherin in breast cancer-bearing BALB/c mice. Meth...

Background and purpose: Breast carcinoma is the most common malignant tumor and the leading cause of death due to cancer among women. Previous studies have shown that increased expression of dysadherin promotes cancer metastasis and reduced expression of E-cadherin was also associated with progression of epithelial tumors. The aim of this study was concurrent assessment of E- cadherin and dysad...

Background: Ovarian cancer is a leading metastatic disease. The epithelial ovarian cancer is one of the most common malignant cancers that usually remains asymptomatic up to metastasis stages, and most patient when diagnosed are in the advanced stage of the disease. Studies have shown that in the majority of epithelial cancers mesenchymal factor expression such as Vimentin increases, and the ep...

Objective(s): A growing body of evidence indicates that rhomboid domain containing 1 (RHBDD1) plays an important role in a variety of physiological and pathological processes, including tumorigenesis. We aimed to determine the function of RHBDD1 in breast cancer cells. Materials and Methods: In this study, we used the Oncomine™ database to determine the expression patterns of RHBDD1 in normal a...
